Steven Beck is a recognized regional expert in school security and a retired 40-year Lower Moreland Township Police Department lieutenant. His expertise includes being the Assistant Team Commander of the Eastern Montgomery County (Moreland Area) Special Weapons and Tactics Team. Additionally, he has years in emergency management, serving as a Deputy Coordinator at the municipal level. For the last 11 years, Mr. Beck served as a Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Sworn Special Detective, overseeing the coordination of school safety initiatives.
His list of accomplishments includes: the development of a county-wide School Safety Committee and coordinating the Montgomery County Bullying and Cyber-Bullying task force, and also establishing a partnership with the Montgomery County Intermediate unit to foster communication between the county’s education leadership and law enforcement, while creating school safety and security protocols at the district and school building level. He has provided hundreds of training sessions to thousands of school personnel, facilitated tabletop exercises and drills, completed numerous site safety and security assessments and developed planning and preparedness capabilities. He has been a member of the Southeast Pennsylvania Regional Taskforce Safe Schools sub-committee, and most recently served as a co-chairperson. Steve a certified instructor in multi-Hazard Emergency Planning for Schools. He is expertly trained in Management of Critical Incidents for Higher Education, in Critical Decision Making for Complex Coordinated Attacks (Rescue Taskforce Approach) and a certified instructor in ALICE (Armed Intruder Response).
Mr. Beck has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Temple University, is a graduate of FBI National Academy (210th Session) and is a United States Marine Corps Veteran. He has been recognized for his work by the Montgomery County Advisory Council to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Montgomery County School Nurse Association, the Montgomery County District Attorney and the Montgomery County Commissioners.
